June SewConnected Block

June is krommomma's month for a quilt block. She wants us to use our fabric scraps to make her a block. This sounds really petty, but I don't think that is fair. I spent alot of money and time buying fabric, cutting it up, addressing the envelopes, driving to the PO and paying to ship out the fabric.

She wants a wonky log cabin house. We're only supposed to use scrap fabric, and not cut into our stash. I don't have much scrap fabric because I cut up what I had into 1.5" squares for TwiztidBlood. I'll have to dig into my stash to make her block for her.

I'm glad she posted a tutorial on how to make the block because I don't have a clue how.

Art Quilt Teaser and Z ATC update

Now that the tube project is finished, I can work on RyverChyld's art quilt and my Z ATC. I have to get the ATCs in the mail by Monday. This is the first time I haven't sent early on the ATC swap. I have my Y finished, but I'm not happy with my Z.

The art quilt is coming along slowly. The background is completely finished (and it looks really good), and I started on the appliqué pieces. I'm mostly worried about how to quilt it--like should I quilt it first and then sew on the appliqué pieces? Or should I sew on the appliqué first and then quilt around it? I want the back to look nice so I don't know which will look best. I also want to sew on some doo-dads, and I don't know when I should sew those on--before or after the quilting. I really don't want any knots to show on the back, but I don't know what it's going to look like on the back if I quilt around them. I'll just have to ponder this a little more. I'll figure it out.

Art Quilt Teaser

This weekend, I'm starting the art quilt for the swap I'm in. Yesterday, I went to Joann's and bought some of their 30% off fabric (Sorry, RyverChyld--I'm not a fabric snob like some of the others in the swap who only shop at quilt stores; I don't mind shopping at Joann's for fabric).

I already know I didn't get enough because I've decided I want to add a small border. I wish I'd decided this yesterday before I went shopping, but I didn't think about it until I got home. I already know the perfect fabric for the border so I'll go back this weekend and get it.

Anyway, this quilt will be pieced, have appliqué on it and some doo-dads for embellishments. I like the design enough that I'm making one for myself, too.

Small De-Stash Swap

My package from astormorray arrived yesterday! She made my cats a little catnip mouse out of red and black yarn she found in her stash (she hates red so she was surprised to find it). She said he's stuffed with "second cuts" (whatever that is) of a fleece she's been spinning, and he has a little heart bead inside him (which is a family tradition based on Raggedy Ann). She was disappointed that he was so small so she included a hand-carved wooden stamp she thought I might appreciate.

This was a very fun swap, and I'm glad I participated in it. The next one is in February, and I think I'll participate in that one, too.

My New Swap Partner!

Yesterday, feelix assigned swap partners for the De-Stash swap I'm in. I was soooo upset because my partner asked for a doll blanket or stuffie for her 2-year-old, a reusable grocery bag, polyclay stitch markers or resin jewlery! OH NO! I can't make ANY of those things for her!

I PM'd her last night and told her I was destashing paper, and I can make her handmade cards. Fortunately, she's "quite pleased" with this because she sends her grandmother cards/letters all the time. Oh, YAY! I was really nervous.

I've already made a few cards I know I can send to her, but I'll make her a few more. I think 10 is probably a good number to send plus some mini cards.

Block for Audrey1999

A Chisholm Trail block for Audrey1999.

Block for ajanderson78

Another Millennium block. This time for ajanderson78

[Edit: 10/20/08]: ajanderson78 is SUCH a LOSER! I made her this cool block (which, by the way, I had to add fabric from my own stash to make because she didn't send enough fabric to make a block with). Anyway, I made her block and returned it to her. She not only has the block I made her, but she has MY FABRIC and won't return it. Pretty much she STOLE my fabric! What a complete FLAKER!

Block for klum78

A Cut the Corners block for klum78

Block #2 for ritapizza

This is ritapizza's bonus block. We did a personal swap with each other and made each other extra blocks.

Block #1 for ritapizza

A Four Patch from McCall's Quilting for ritapizza.

Block for JQA

This was my first-ever paper-pieced block. I made it for Quilt Dad (aka j_q_adams). Something that's been bugging me since making it, though, is that he's going to lose the points when he sews this block in his quilt. I guess that's a design flaw...?

This block is from Simply Sensational 9-Patch Stars by Carol Doak.

Block for Jenicat

An Arrow Crown block for Jenicat! WOW! Love this block!
